Are you looking to submit your work to literary agents? Want to self-publish? I’m here to help!
Editing and proofreading is an essential, invaluable step in getting published. While traditional publishers provide these services in-house as a part of their contracts, self-published authors have to outsource. That’s where I come in. I provide a range of professional services for both new and established authors.
In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, I have 5+ years of experience editing, writing, and teaching writing. I’ve have worked for major copyediting and tutoring services including Textbroker, Inc. and Tutor.com. I’m also an author myself and I love working with others on that crucial step to publication.
Content/Developmental Editing: This is after you’ve written a full first draft at the very least. I’ll look at your story’s big picture – plot structure, characterization, consistency in style and voice, and so on. A content/developmental edit will show you what parts of the story may need to be rewritten and where to focus your efforts in revision. This is a crucial step on whichever route to publication you choose (traditional, agent, or self).
Line Editing: This type of editing happens once you’ve completed multiple drafts and you’re confident that the overall story is ready for the world to see. In this edit, I’ll sit down and take a look at the nitty-gritty – grammar, spelling, dialogue formatting, etc. This should be done before you submit to a literary agent, a publisher, or a formatting specialist for self-publication.
Proofreading: Once you’ve cleaned up the entire project and are ready to submit, this is the absolute last step. Here, I do one last spelling, grammar, and mechanics sweep and check for typos. If you are submitting to an agent or publisher, I’ll make sure it’s formatted properly according to their specifications (if you plan to self-publish, the project should be formatted for print and/or ebook distribution prior to proofreading).
Content/Development and Line Editing is $2.00/page (single space, submitted as a .doc/.docx file).
Proofreading services are charged at a flat rate depending on project length.
